Kasamakura is a journey

a journey to architecture

a journey through architecture

a journey with children

Architecture exists long before the architects came along. Not long ago, people built their own places; no architect needed. Since the moment we are born we are dwellers. Either is a cave or a house or a hut, there is a place that we consciously have prepared for shelter. We spend most of our lives in architecture. We always have a feeling of what we like in the space we find ourselves. Every space will arouse different emotions just because we are looking, because we are there. This connection works so naturally that we usually do not pay attention to this in a rational way. Otherwise, we all would know a lot about architecture; but wait…maybe somehow, we do.

I think architects and children are similar in some ways: they both like to draw, and do that to tell their story; they enjoy working with their hands and they have a vivid imagination; they like to experiment new things, and can be caught daydreaming any moment.

These are some of the reasons why architecture is such a relevant subject to work with in education. You have it in the school, in their homes, in their wanderings. The children know about it, and they experience it every day, even without noticing. It is just there for everyone to learn from it.

Let´s take this journey together. Let´s get off the ground and fly to wherever we are meant to go.

Come with us. We were waiting for you.

Casandra Gorostiza, architect @Kasamakura
